So, awhile ago, I had posted about things that make a place feel like home.
Then we went on vacation and came back to Seattle.
And it didn’t feel like we were coming home – but like we were coming back to Seattle.
We spent time at the Oregon coast with family after the vacation to the board game convention in Dallas, and, on the way back, it felt even LESS like home than it had the week before as we had travelled back!
I miss family and friends. Don’t get me wrong – I’m SO grateful I have my husband, else I’d go completely insane, but I still don’t feel settled here. And because of it, I’m struggling with feeling like decorating our house for Christmas — the place doesn’t feel like ours (and who am I kidding – it isn’t, we’re renting it), and we won’t be there FOR Christmas, so why bother putting up any decorations?
Can you tell I’m struggling a bit with this?
Hang in there hon, it will get better. All the things that make a house feel like home don’t happen in a day. Home is home because it has years of memories – which you are in the process of creating right now. I just hope you don’t ever get to the point where you love Seattle SO much you don’t want to come back to visit! That would make me sad. Glad to hear your holiday was good.
I know what that is like. I am so glad that you have not completely fallen in love with Seattle. However, even though you are renting, you can create memories as Fallon said and can do things to make it feel like it is your home but remember the saying home is where the heart is. Apparently your heart is still not in Seattle. 🙂 Putting up a few decorations will help you get in the spirit of Christmas and get you excited to come home to visit though. I am glad you were able to get to your board game convention.
